Chemical Peels
Chemical peels use a variety of acids to resurface, brighten, rejuvenate, and treat hyperpigmentation and melasma. The type of peel is chosen based on your skin concerns, goals, and the current health of your skin.
Some of the acids used in the formulas include salicylic, lactic, glycolic, tartaric, citric, and kojic, but also retinol and hexylresorcinol.
Contraindications:
Pregnancy
Allergies to any of the ingredients
Sunburn
Impaired skin barrier
Dermatitis
Pre-care is required prior to any chemical peel for at least two weeks. This would include a tyrosinase inhibitor, which prevents your melanocytes from reacting and causing hyperpigmentation after the peel.
Some peels are included with other treatments, while others are stand-alone due to the intensity of the peel. You can expect to feel tightness and have mild flaking and/or itching, as these peels are “no-downtime” peels, which do not provide sheet peeling of the skin. This does not mean they are not working! The formula is designed to not sheet peel so you are able to go about your life as usual.
Post-care will also be required for the week following your chemical peel and needs to be followed strictly to have the best outcome. This will include a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. After the first week, most of the peeling will have subsided and you can resume your normal regimen.
Strong chemical peels will never be provided as a first-time service. If you are interested in having a chemical peel, please contact us to have a mild peel or enzyme treatment first and then you can be scheduled for a stronger peel.
